Sir Peter GibsonThe Right Honourable Sir Peter Gibson, Chair

Sir Peter Gibson was called to the Bar in 1960 and practised as a Chancery barrister until 1981 when he was appointed a High Court Judge and assigned to the Chancery Division.  He also served as a judge of the Employment Appeal Tribunal from 1984 to 1986.  He was the Chairman of the Law Commission from 1990 to 1992.  He was appointed to the Court of Appeal in 1993 when he was made a Privy Counsellor.  He has been an Honorary Fellow of Worcester College, Oxford since 1993.  He was the Treasurer of Lincoln’s Inn in 1996. He served as a Lord Justice of Appeal until he retired in 2005 but continued to sit in the Court of Appeal and the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council from time to time until 2009.  Sir Peter was the Intelligence Services Commissioner from 2006 to 2010. He has been a judge of the Civil and Commercial Court of the Qatar Financial Centre since 2007. He was appointed Chairman of the Detainee Inquiry on 6 July 2010.

Dame Janet ParaskevaThe Right Honourable Dame Janet Pareskeva DBE

Janet Paraskeva began her career as a teacher, going on to work for a number of years in Youth and Community work, establishing and becoming the first Chief Executive of the National Youth Agency and creating the European Confederation of Youth Club Organisations. She worked as an education Inspector for the Inner London Education Authority and was also HM Inspector of Schools. She was the first Director for England of the National Lottery Charities Board and went on to be the first Chief Executive of the Law Society. Her other previous roles include membership of the boards of a number of public and academic organisations; more recently she has been a non-executive director on the board of the Serious Organised Crime Agency and Chair of the Child Exploitation and On-line Centre. From January 2006 to December 2010 she was the First Civil Service Commissioner. She was also the first Chair of the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission and Chair of the Olympic Lottery Distributor. She is currently a member of the Council of the Competition Commission, Chair of the development charity Plan UK and an Associate Governor of Ryde Academy on the Isle of Wight.

The Rt Hon Peter RiddellThe Right Honourable Peter Riddell CBE (until December 2011)

Peter Riddell is Director ( chief executive) of the Institute for Government. He was appointed to the Privy Council in July 2010 in order to serve on the Panel of the Detainee Inquiry—from which he resigned at the end of December 2011 when he took over at the IfG. He was made a CBE in June 2012 for services to journalism and other public service. He is a Governor of Dulwich College and a member of the committee recommending honours for parliamentary and political service. He was chair of the Hansard Society for five years until mid-2012. Until mid-2010, he had been a journalist for nearly 40 years, on the Financial Times, from 1970 until 1991; and from 1991 until 2010 on the Times, as chief political commentator. He has written seven books on British politics, is an Honorary Fellow of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge; holds Honorary Doctorates of Literature from the Universities of Edinburgh and Greenwich; was among the first recipients of the inaugural President’s Medal of the British Academy in 2010; and is an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences.
